The feminist view of the female body is at the centre of Maryoni’s art. Femininity is still predominantly defined by the male gaze, resulting in the female body being both sexualized and a source of shame. With her Vulva Art, Maryoni wants to break down the taboo against the female sex organ and make it visible in its diversity.

The artist wants to dissolve the image of the supposedly perfect vulva conveyed by the media and the porn industry and instead show that every vulva is individual and represents a completely normal part of the female body.

Maryoni is a psychologist and lives in Berlin. In earlier artistic works she experimented with film, photography and painting. Her work has already been shown at film festivals and exhibitions.
